11 teams for FNRLW competition

THE 2025 Fiji National Rugby League Women’s competition is set to be the biggest yet, with a total of 11 teams vying for the championship.

The competition, officially launched at Albert Park in Suva yesterday, will feature the participation of three new teams – Saru Dragons, Nabua Broncos, and Nadera Panthers.

Of the 11 teams, six are from the east while five are from the west, the addition of these new teams adds excitement and competition to the league, with defending champions Police Blues ready to defend their title against motivated challengers.

Fiji National Rugby League chairman Akuila Masi expressed gratitude to the Australian Government for their support in growing women’s rugby league in the Pacific.

“We extend our sincere appreciation to the Australian Government through the department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, for their unwavering support and commitment to growing women’s rugby league across the Pacific,” said Masi.

“I was informed that the defending champions Police Blues, is ready to defend their titles and im sure the other teams are equally inspired to stamp their mark in this competition.

“The competition will span two full rounds, with the top 8 teams advancing to the quarterfinals.

Bulikula head coach Joe Rabele was commended for his leadership in developing the national women’s team, showcasing the growth and potential of women’s rugby league in Fiji.

Andrew Lepani, Senior Advisor to the PacificAus Sports Program, highlighted the increasing popularity and impact of the competition, emphasising the power of sport to unite people.

The Australian Government’s support underscores the importance of sports in fostering connections and promoting growth in the region.
